Kuroshitsuji Chapter 49

It's early Halloween eh?
Anyway, Ciel's legs are soooo slender... I think we need to double-check whether or not he's a girl. Chapter sum after the cut~

Chapter 49 Summary:
Sebastien continues to reveal the truth of his death to Woodsmith from where we are left off last chapter. After Grey "killed" him and stabbed him a few times to make sure Sebby's dead for real, Grey leaves the room muttering he needs to see the 'dead' old man and it was rather disappointing that he couldn't play with the little boy any longer.

Once Grey is out of sight, Sebby gets up and reaches the drunken 'corpse' (Siemens was drinking wine from the cell after the he woke up when the potion's effects were over) before Grey. Before Sebastien could do anything, Grey arrives and Sebby has to hide himself at the ceiling. Grey awakens Siemens and kills him shortly stating disdainfully that it'll take longer than 10 years for Germany to catch up with them.

After witnessing everything, Sebby writes a report and seals it in an envelope for Ciel. Before entering Ciel's room, Sebastien finds wearing his blood-stain suit inappropriate to visit his master and the guest.

As speculated, the mysterious 'sound' was his blood squishing out from his wound.
(Interesting, I didn't think that Sebby will continue to bleed, isn't demon like, invincible???)

After giving orders to the servants trio, Sebby goes back to the room and stabs himself with a poker and plays dead. In the morning, his 'corpse' is discovered as plan.

While Ciel may look devastated at Sebby's body, he's actually enjoying punching Sebby's face with his ringed-fist, which Sebby regards Ciel as extremely evil for that.

As we all suspected, Ciel did give Sebby an order when he 'whispered at Sebby's ear. When the coast is clear, Sebby got up at once and goes owl-hunting. Unfortunately, his plan is interrupted when the detective gang decides to check Sebby's 'body' for the key. Running in the rain to get back and play dead, Sebby's plan is once again interrupted by a soaking-wet black kitten in the rain.

Unable to resist the absolutely kawaii kitten, Sebby rushes back to his room and hides it in his wardrobe before zooming back to the 'corpse room'.
Now we know why he was wet.

While the detective gang are examining his body, Sebby is actually quite pissed to find himself in such a humiliating position for the first time in his demon-life.
Hmmm~ Sebby, naked. Maybe and maybe not. It wasn't drawn, but one can imagine.
*must not swoon and drool over Sebby's imaginary naked abs*

As Sebby goes on with his adventure, Woodsmith is eager to know the content of the mysterious futuristic message Sebby sent by owl-mail. The message, or to be exact, the paper note, was empty as Sebby thought it's a good opportunity to train his bocchan to think quickly. As expected of Ciel (who's pretty pissed off by Sebby's prank), he craps about Sebby knowing his death and making preparations for it smoothly.

Thus, everything was happening according to plan as Sebby juggles his roles as Shelock Holmes Jeremy and the dead-Sebby. It was of course easier for a corpse to move around in the night. However, in order to play his roles as a handsome corpse and the fabulous pastor flawlessly, Sebby has to scurried around the house sliding into his dead body pose, preparing his props and transforming into Jeremy faster than light-speed.

It was especially tough for Sebby when Grey, who suspects that Sebby isn't totally dead (how and why I wonder), is around him. With Grey's suspicion cleared, Ciel and Jeremy are free to frame a scapegoat for the murders. When Woodsmith asks why did Ciel choose to frame an innocent victim - Mr. Diamond-dealer-whose-name-I've-forgotten, Ciel tells him that the diamond dealer isn't as innocent as Woodsmith thinks. In fact, the evil diamond dealer was trading his money for weaponry and he's been labelled as a dirt that needs to be cleaned up by Ciel long ago.

Later on, Ciel further explains that although the Queen planned this incident to frame Ciel as the serial killer, it was actually a test for Ciel to prove himself worthy as the Queen's Watchdog. After all, a true Phantomhive wouldn't get caught by such a simple prank. With all mysteries cleared, all there's left is one crucial fact which Woodsmith couldn't bring himself to believe in even though it would make Sebastien's story logical.

Sebby ain't human.
In a sudden, Sebby turns demon-ish to terrorise Woodsmith and warns him that they'll be watching him, so he better not tell anyone about their secrets. Terrified, Woodsmith runs away but he bumps into Sebby who appears before him mysteriously. As Sebby taunts him happily, Woodsmith wakes up in a fright and finds himself in a carriage in front of his house.

Alone, Ciel sips his tea and questions Sebastien's motif for revealing the truth to the writer. Sebastien tells Ciel that if Woodsmith were to know the truth, surely he's able to come up with more intriguing stories with that talent of his.

At his study, Woodsmith is seen madly scribbling on pieces of paper. He seems to continue writing for a long time ever since he got his inspirations from that incident.
No way. Sherlock Holmes? These are Woodsmith's work?
You've gotta be kidding.

Later on, we are shown a middle-age totally un-handsome uncle who appears to be Woosmith a few years later. After being waking up from another nightmare of that incident, Woodsmith decides to cast the papers into the fire to erase all traces of evidence to the truth of that stormy night.

Thoughts:
So this marks the end of our detective story, hopefully. Now that leaves the question of how on earth is Sebby gonna present himself in front of others seeing that everyone knows that Sebby's dead and he should remain dead. Perhaps, he can introduce himself as Sebby's twins/triplets/quadraplets who's also named Sebastien.... ok that was really lame....

Anyway, I'm still not quite sure about the Queen's intention. Not with those white butlers of hers trotting happily at the Phantomhive mansion... While Ciel sounds very certain of the Queen's plan, he might be wrong. Maybe, the Queen was fooling him. After all, she is the wise Queen who made the kingdom powerful. Surely, that's not something she can't do. Moreover, the queen's role in the anime might have serve as a hint to what she's planning in the manga. I mean, the 3 killing-machine/servants' assassin sides were revealed in the anime before the manga, so I guess we can't ignore the possibility of the Queen plotting something evil against Ciel...

Plot aside, it was pretty hilarious to see Sebby rushing around and sliding (baseball!!) into his corpse-pose. The kitten part was simply adorable. lol I don't think I mind keeping my cats in my wardrobe!! Lastly, Sebastien's little prank on the empty message was really clever. That little panel of a pissed Ciel and the sniggering Jeremy was just so lol-worthy.

  2. i think i enjoyed this more than actually reading the chapter lol oh and about him being dead to the others, good point hmm i wonder what they will do about that. I don't enjoy these white butlers roaming around freely, Ciel should really be careful seeing what they are capable of doing.
Hehe nicely done! Thank you for this!

  4. It depends on which scanlating group is faster... Most of the time, the less popular series are out faster in Chinese, so I usually read them on Chinese sites like http://mh.99770.cc/ or http://comic.veryim.com/

The rest are from the official sites of the English scanlators (no more Onemanga, I got most directly from their blogs and forums as many don't want their works to be uploaded)
