Ouran Host Club Chapter 83 (FINAL)

Finally it has come to an end. T^T

Chapter Summary:

With the opportunity to study abroad for free, Haruhi tells Tamaki that while she'd love to take the chance, she's worry about her father. Overhearing Haruhi's worries, Ranka jumps out and tells her that even without the sponsorship he can still support Haruhi to study oversea with the savings Ranka and Kotoko prepared.

With her daddy problem solved, Haruhi proceeds with informing the Ouran students and the host members about her plan. During a club meeting, Haruhi also expresses that she wants to reveal her gender secret to the rest.

Knowing Haruhi's transferring, Haruhi receives help from her friends to improve her English. Just a day before her flight to Boston, a farewell party, a masquerade was held for Haruhi.

While everyone enjoys the fun, Haruhi feels a pang of regret as she couldn't tell the rest about her secret. She even feels depressed when Tamaki is busy entertaining other girls. After dancing for a while with Haruhi's dancing guru, Mori and the rest kidnapped Haruhi and changed her into a pretty girl with a gorgeous mask.

It turns out that the host club members thought that if the clients can discover Tamaki's secret, they might have found out about Haruhi's secret in some way as well.

And so, they organised the game "Let's look for Haruhi-kun" to show Haruhi how much their clients know about and care for Haruhi.

Haruhi is discovered the moment she enters the ball room. It seems like everyone knew about her secret long ago and support her relationship with Tamaki.

*Lovely dance is sweet*

Watching them, Honey tries to get Kyoya to admit his feelings for Haruhi. Being the calculative Kyoya, he admits that he acknowledges Haruhi, but there's something more precious that he treasures.

After the dance, Tamaki joins Haruhi who is chilling on the balcony. While they talk about Haruhi's life and accommodation in Boston, Haruhi is shocked to find out that Tamaki (intends to) will be living with her in the same apartment. Tamaki then explains that he is allowed to study aboard with Haruhi with the permission of his grandmother as long as he can keep up with his schedule.

After Tamaki's explanation, Haruhi gladly accepts his decision and they kiss~
*OMG THEY KISS! xD*

At the airport, when Haruhi and Tamaki are leaving, Ranka is outrageous to discover that Tamaki is leaving with Haruhi and goes on a rampage. The host club clients then overhear Ranka calling Haruhi "daughter" and were absolutely shell shock that Haruhi is girl as they used to think Haruhi was a highly feminine boy and has a cross-dressing fetish.

At their new house, Tamaki and Haruhi have spent many days trying to get their things sorted. While Tamaki tries to get Haruhi to kiss him, their neighbors ring the door bell and Haruhi goes check them out.

Who happens to be the whole gang of host club members.

Looks like the whole family couldn't leave these two alone and decide to study abroad together. (Mori even brought his pets along!)

THE END.

Final thoughts:
Wow. This series has finally ended. Think about it, I've followed this adorable series for more than 2 years! Not that it's some great achievement or anything... But my interest and love for Ouran seemed to died down somewhere after following it for a year where I'd only check out the updates once in while... Just a few months ago, I finally had the chance to watch Ouran's anime which I couldn't be bother to watch in 2008 as I was too occupied with Code Geass!! Thanks to the fun-filled anime, my passion for Ouran was back and before I knew, I had rented a whole stack of Ouran manga and gobbled them down.

Why do I love Ouran (let's just forget the fact that I actually abandoned it for some time)? Yes, the unique host club and the extravagant academy is certainly very refreshing and the depiction of the lavish lives of the rich kids and their lack of common sense were particularly hilarious. No doubt, Ouran's main attraction is Tamaki & Haruhi's and Hikaru & Kaoru fluffy love story. But of course, if I want more romance comedy manga, there's always Kaichou wa Maid-sama! and many others I can't be bothered to check them out. The main point is, Haruhi is not a tsundere and Tamaki is not an alien. No offence, it's just that I cannot stand tsundere who goes all dere-dere and steams like a boiling tomato when prince charming is around. While I do enjoy Maid-sama, it's getting rather annoying to see Misaki so flustered while Usui maintains his charming Prince Edward persona.

Generally, I dislike stereotypical characters, but Hatori-sensei managed to transform a group of somewhat boring cliché-ish people simply irresistible by making them do things only they can do. Haruhi herself is one of the cutest shoujo heroines I've come across. She's calm (maybe a bit too calm that she's sort of apathetic), brainy and independent. But she's not perfect! While she's very smart, she isn't the brightest girl (blame her house-wife attitude) and is terribly afraid of thunder like any little girl would. On the other hand, Tamaki is quite an idiot in some way although he looks like the sparkiest prince charming in the world. Then we have Kyouya, the mother hen of the wild animals. His calculative personality is just so funny to watch as he always has a way to get away with his occasional good deeds. I guess I'll leave the character analysis here even though I'd like to go on with the rest of the host club members...

At first glance, Ouran may seem like a stereotypical reverse harem manga which everyone falls for the heroine, which is a big no-no to me. But it doesn't feel like one anymore with the family-love theme surfacing as the story progress and the final showdown between Tamaki and Hikaru. Everyone has their family problems (maybe except Mori...), how they interact with those around them to overcome these problems, is the best part of every arc.

Lastly, the TamakixHaruhi pairing is one of the cutest shoujo-manga pairing I support. Not too much angst (that's why I totally gave up of Vampire Knight and Twilight), not too sugary-sweet, a little bit of bitterness and a few sprinkles of humour to spice things up, it was fun and easy to follow their journey to love. I was especially happy with the final kissing scene which was so blissful and fairytale-like without the need to over-flood the kissing couple with flowers and god knows what (which can be very irritating for me).

Well, this is it. The end of an all-time favourite romance comedy manga. Goodbye Ouran Host Club, you will be missed dearly, no doubt.

  1. This series has come a long way, and I feel that it couldn't have ended more beautifully and fulfilling than this. And to finally break the typical Shoujo romance tradition (with a period of separation between the two lovers), was a very refreshing feeling indeed. I'd much rather have Tamaki end up living together with her than to live in Japan waiting for her to come back.

I hope the creator plans just a little short bonus, preferably a few years into the future. I want to see their kid and all. ^w^

  8. I'm pretty sure Honey wasn't referring to Kyouya's feelings for Haruhi, but for Tamaki. Though, I won't deny the possibility that he could have fallen for the BOTH of them, potentially.

  9. Hey it's 2018 and I was rewatching this back then. I missed this anime especially I re read the manga because I miss this kind of shoujo, gender bender and romance comedy theme. I love the creator behind this story. And so much for the characters, they were carved at my heart forever. This is perfect. Transforming cliche-ish to something new. I love Ouran and I will miss the badly.
