青の祓魔師 (Ao no Exorcist)

Blue Exorcist!!

A new series!!

Well, not that new though...

It was recommended by Comic Weekly and the moment I spotted it in HQ I swept it off the shelf in an instant.

Art: 9/10
The art style doesn't follow the gorgeous type I've been reading such as Kuroshitsuji or Tsubasa, it keeps reminding me of Fullmetal Alchemist's whenever I read it. Was it because of the story or what? hmmm... Anyway, the art work is clear with the strokes crispy and strong, giving a sense of light to it. At first glance it may look simple and pleasant, a second glance made me realized that it is rather detailed too.

Story: 8+/10
Seeing that it's still ongoing, I can't really judge it unless I've finished the whole series. Despite that, the existing chapters are intriguing and extremely interesting, leaving me yearning for more future chapters.

Characters: 9/10
Awesome people come from this awesome series!! Absolutely love the genius Yukio and the brotherly Rin!!

Afterthoughts:

The story started with Rin looking like a delinquent traumatizing some bad guys in some dark alley, but it turns out that Rin was actually stopping the evil guys from chopping off some innocent pigeons' feet (eeeww!), and now we know he has a gentle side despite being good at fighting...

Then, we get a glimpse of Rin's life with his twin brother Yukio and his Father (who happens to be a Father of a church and adopted the twins) . I must say I love the interactions between him and his family. It was really sweet to see the awkwardness Rin shown when his father showered him with love when he teaches Rin to tie a neck tie for his job interview.

Sadly, Rin didn't make it for the interview... He got stopped by the previous delinquents possessed by some demons and ended up with his demon part awaken. Sad guy gets a shock of his life and his dad jumps out to save him and insists that Rin goes away for his own good when they get back at home.

When Rin verbally injured his dear Father, Satan overtook his dad's body which result in Father's death (so sad...) and Rin's hatred towards Satan. And here's where the story is finally starting...

Rin decides to become an exorcist despite being Satan's son and his ignorance about the parallel world. And so he enrols into a famous and seemingly-normal school as requested by his Father's friend who's some sort of exorcist (or at least that's what I think) Obviously, True Cross Academy isn't any normal school with secret classes for exorcist-to-be conducted by experienced exorcists.

Yukio, Rin's brother is in the same academy as well as being the top genius student who scored some insanely-high mark for the entrance exam. The climax for the introduction chapters is definitely here. I was caught off guard when I flipped the page and saw Yukio introducing himself as the exorcist class' instructor.

And that's just awesome.

Rin was ignorant about his self while Yukio was taught and trained under Father to be a wonderful exorcist when they were young. And now the younger brother is Rin's instructor!! LOL Now that's something original.

The entire story gives me the FMA vibe due to the twins in the story. Their relationship is so brotherly and funny at the same time. The way they care for each other and their interactions are enjoyable to read. One notable scene was Yukio trying to get Rin to study hard to improve his pathetic grade, Rin being the elder one wasn't used to being bossed around by someone younger than him. Others include Yukio expressing his disappointment in Rin while handling Rin's quiz result to him and their bickering among themselves.

Of course there are many other characters worth mentioning, but this is not Wikipedia and I'm really lazy to type them out... And certainly, this review of mine does not justify this wonderful piece of work, so it's really best if you can check it out yourself~

I'm now keeping my fingers crossed to see whacky series being turned into an anime in the future~~
